OUTDOOR SOLAR LAMP (Hardware & Product designing)

This is hardware & product design which deals with design development from stage one to last stage, starting with an inspiration, generating textures, colour boards, geons, followed by forms and in the end  coming up with a new product out of these.

The following SOLAR LAMP is  an 'accent lighting' designed for outdoor restaurants or for gardens for aesthetic purpose with minimal lighting. It is to be hung in such a way that direct sunlight hits its top having solar panel so that it charges the batteries in daytime and is automatically lit in the night.

BENEFITS- 1) Solar lamps can be easier for customers to install & maintain as they do not require an electricity cable. 2) They can benefit owners with reduced maintainance cost and costs of electricity bills.

'MATERIALS REQUIRED;

Poly carbonate glass' - a synthetic , glass like polymer is appreciated by experts for its durability, transparency & for being scratch-proofed & impact-resistant.This is used for sheets to be put inside  the lower body.
'Aluminium' for the lower body and the head , the aluminium alloy is coated with an additional protecting varnish or powder finish.If the aluminium core emerges due to mechanical force or wear, the impenetrable anodized coating protects the light from corrosion.
'Ornamental rivets' are used to attach  the sheets to aluminium lower body.
'Clip on hinges' are used to attach the aluminium triangular flaps to the lower body.
Screws are used to attach the upper body to lower body.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS- 1) The upper and lower parts are produced by high pressure casting, according to the required shape/form. 2) The poly carbonate sheets are laser cut according to the size & shape, they're fitted to the lower body by ornamental riveting. 3) The triangular moving flaps are also made using high pressure casting/ they can also be laser cut out of a sheet. 4) The triangular flaps are joined to the lower body using 'hinges'. 5) Electrical components are placed into the upper body(head). 6)Upper body is fixed to the lower body using screws (which can be unscrewed to help change the battery).
